A tropical flower, anthuriums have strange petal-like bracts, that are red, pink, white or green. The blooms are glossy like patent leather. As a cut flower, anthuriums live two to three weeks.

Anthurium flowers are long lasting when cut. The plant prefers bright light but no direct sunlight. Use a porous soil mix and do not allow it to dry out. Follow a regular fertilizer program using an equal analysis liquid fertilizer. Ideal temperatures are 75 to 80 degrees during the day and 65 to 70 degrees at night. Chilling injury occurs below 50 degrees. Repot when the plant is about to start active growth. Cover surface roots with sphagnum moss. Anthurium roots are easily burned by fertilizer applied when the soil is dry. The flowering is not dependent on day length. Anthurium responds favorably to supplemental humidity.
